U21 European team bronze medallist David Doel tasted success at the Knight Frank-sponsored Dauntsey Park Horse Trials last weekend.

Doel, who helped Great Britain to third place in Portugal last month, took seven horses to the local event and, on the first day, was second in the Intermediate Novice section riding Mocklers Hill Buster owned by Jane James.

He followed up with a win in the Intermediate section riding Earl Galante, with an outstanding dressage of 20.

On the second day, the Reybridge rider won riding Get Set Autumn Star in the pre-Novice section and he concludes his eventing season at Aldon at the end of the month with three horses in a one-star competition.

More than 750 combinations featured at the Dautsey trials, with Badgerstown-based New Zealander Sir Mark Todd clinching the main Open Intermediate class and £1,000 first prize on NZB Land Vision.

Mildenhall-based compatriot Jonelle Price was second on Cloud Dancer II, with Marlborough-based Andrew Nicholson fourth on Swallow Springs.

Team GB 2012 Olympic silver medallist Tina Cook was sixth on Calvino II.

Other winners at the event, organised by top eventer Beanie Sturgis, included Sherston’s Kitty Clark, on Sandhills Star Turn. Pumbaa Goess-Saurau, from Barbury Castle, finished fourth with Dunno Fear.

Meanwhile, Lower Stanton St Quintin rider Kitty King and horse Ceylor LAN were crowned seven-year-old champions at Osberton.

The pair had previous won the five and six-year-old titles.
