IT’S GOING to be all work and no play for Stephanie Millward after her winter training schedule stepped up a notch this week.

The 33-year-old Paralympic swimming star enjoyed yet another summer to savour earlier this year as she bagged seven medals at the IPC European Championships in Eindhoven.

After a brief rest period, Millward, who lives in Box, launched back into the hard grind yesterday as she jetted off to Fuerteventura for ten days of warm weather work with the Great Britain squad, which is set to be followed by another two weeks’ of training camps in this country.

Millward is already looking towards next year’s IPC World Championships, at Glasgow’s Tollcross International Swimming Centre, this summer’s Commonwealth Games venue, and reiterated that there is still plenty of room for improvement for her in the pool.

“I had about a month off after the Europeans. I spent some time relaxing and then had a holiday in Zante, getting a tan and then coming home and losing it,” said Millward.

“I’d say I started training again at the start of September. When you start back, you think ‘how on Earth did I ever do this?’ but the more and more you train, the easier it gets.

“We’ll be in Fuerteventura for ten days and it definitely won’t be a holiday. Then I’ve got a week’s training camp in Cardiff with Aquae Sulis and Aaron Moores (Paralympian from Trowbridge), and then I’m up in Manchester for another week with Great Britain.

“It’s going to be really busy and it’s going to be a lot of hard work but it should all be good for me.

“The trials for the World Championships are in March and once they’re done, I’ll be heading into Rio (the 2016 Olympics).”

Whilst she is away, friend Karen Grant will be back home helping with the launch of her book Paying the Price, which is set to be released next month.
