TROWBRIDGE’S Nick Blackwell will be back in Monaco in February after being handed a bout on the undercard of Martin Murray’s WBA middleweight title fight against Gennady Golovkin.

Middleweight Blackwell shared a draw with Sergey Khomitsky in Monte Carlo back in October and will face an unnamed opponent at the show on February 21.

Blackwell will not be in action this weekend after his mooted outing in Germany was shelved.

The 24-year-old had been touted for his third fight in six weeks but now won’t be appearing on Saturday’s bill at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg after British heavyweight David Price pulled out of his scheduled bout with Emilio Ezequiel Zarate and Yoan Pablo Hernandez was also forced to postpone his IBF world cruiserweight title defence against Ola Afolabi.

Blackwell is instead left to concentrate on a third shot at the British middleweight title next year after watching Billy Joe Saunders beat Chris Eubank Jr at London’s ExCel Arena last Saturday.

“Nick’s the mandatory challenger but Billy Joe will vacate the British title now he’s won it outright,” said Blackwell’s Contender Gym trainer Mark Kent.

“I think the board will be meeting next week to talk about things and we’ve just got to wait and see what will be happening with that one.

“I think that Eubank’s people will go back to the drawing board and it could end up being someone like John Ryder.”

Meanwhile, fellow Contender Gym fighters Ryan Wheeler, who made his pro debut in October, and Liam Hodson were due to be in action in Bristol on Saturday, December 13 but that bill has been cancelled.
