GYMNASTS from the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics have been busy scooping up medals in recent competitions, as well as welcoming a famous face to their gym.

The club welcomed Commonwealth Games champion Claudia Fragapane to its Melksham base recently.

Fragapane made history after winning four gold medals at the Games in Glasgow this summer She took time out from her busy schedule to visit the gym, have pictures with gymnasts and giving autographs as well as watching her own team Bristol Hawks compete.

The gym was hosting the final West Country League event of the year which attracted more than a hundred gymnasts from across the south west of England and Wales.

The league consists of three matches held throughout the year with five divisions consisting of three leagues based on age and ability.

Wiltshire School of Gymnastics took gold in Division One A League and Division Two A League, while landing bronze medals in the B and C League’s in Division One.

Meanwhile, a seven-strong Wiltshire School group passed regional grading at Plymouth Swallows Gymnastics Club.

At Grade 12, Polly Boother and Zoe Hunt earned distinctions, with Aby Hemmens highly commended.

Caitlin Mander, Holly Pearce, Brooke Johnson and Erin Vincent earned grade 11 distinctions.

  • AT THE South West A Star competition, Wiltshire School’s Violet Browne was first on vault, bars and overall at level five, as well as second on beam. Lauren O'Connor was second on vault and sixth overall.

At Level four, Erin Vincent was second on floor and 12th overall while, at level three Nicole Parsons was second on vault, bars and beam as well as first on floor and overall. Jasmine Frost was fifth overall.

At FIG level, Jessica Daykin was first on bars, beam and overall.

Hannah Griffin also represented the South West region in the National Level Four Voluntary Championships in Guildford, finishing 21st in a field of 54 gymnasts.

  • WILTSHIRE School gymnasts passed their Wiltshire Grades, with Azara Firth earning a distinction at grade two and Hannah Redpath passing.

At grade one, there were passes for Katie Hobden and Alex Bryant, as well as a pre-level pass for Sammy Kirk.

Grace Whitmarsh earned a distinction at level four.
