REIGNING English Amateur Snooker Champion Ben Harrison has crashed out of this year’s competition at the first hurdle.

Hawkeridge hotshot Harrison fell to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Mark Turner in the first round of the south west qualifier.

That was despite the 22-year-old chalking up a 121 break at the Belgrave Snooker Club, Plymouth.

Harrison sprang a shock at last year’s competition when he was crowned national champion following an impressive 10-6 win over Middlesbrough’s Anthony Parsons in the final at the Northern Snooker Centre.

However, he was unable to recapture that form this time around.

James Height (Shepton Mallet), Alan Tunney (Torbay) and Eden Sharav (Gloucester) booked their places in the last 16 of the south section, which will be played at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury in April.

Height dropped just two frames in his three matches, Tunney received a bye and a walkover so only played one match, while Sharav recorded the day’s highest break of 125.
