WILL Stockley showed his versatility with an impressive performance at the Midland Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
Just a week after finishing as runner-up in the inter boys’ race at the South West Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Grittleton House School, the 15-year-old Team Bath runner from Semington won the Under-17 men’s 800m in Birmingham.
Showing a good turn of leg speed, Stockley, who is a student at Melksham Oak School, clocked a personal best of two minutes 0.78 seconds to eclipse his 2014 outdoor best of 2.01.00 – and that suggests his first sub-two minute clocking is within reach this summer.
- With his second excellent run in seven days, Freshford runner Miles Burton, who is a former student at St Laurence School, claimed an impressive victory in the fourth and final race in the Gloucestershire Cross County League.
Burton’s return to action the previous weekend saw him finish fourth in the Gwent League at Blaise Castle, so Saturday’s performance was another positive step forward as he beat in-form Cheltenham runner Dave Roper by 14 seconds.
Corsham School’s Jade Littlechild raced to victory in the under 15 girls’ race whilst Hayden Burton was runner-up in the U17 boys’ age group.
