VICTOR Cox insists that he’s more than ready for his crack at the big leagues.

The 29-year-old is gearing up for his first-ever season in the British Superbike Championship, the country’s leading road race superbike competition, with the Trowbridge speedster set to tussle with the first round of the year at Donington Park this Easter weekend.

Cox, who had previously raced in the National Superstock 1000 Championship, a BSB support series, since 2006, had only ever previously ridden a handful of rounds as a guest but he earned a deal with Morello Racing Kawasaki during the off-season.

And the Wiltshire BSB rookie says that he currently feels like a child on Christmas Eve ahead of today’s opener.

“It’s been a really long winter because I’ve just been looking forward to it so much but I’m ready to give it 110 per cent,” said Cox, who took part in pre-season testing at Donington last Thursday.

“It feels like I’ve always worked towards getting to the BSB and now it’s happening.

“I feel really good and I’ve put a lot of effort into getting sponsors on board and all my training in the winter too.

“I was out in Spain at the end of February for testing and we also got the chance to so some more at Donington – we didn’t have the greatest amount of track time because of the weather but it was still worthwhile.

“The bike is 214 horsepower, so it’s really fast. I’m excited about it and there is so much more freedom that you have with the settings.

“I’ve got to be realistic this year but the most important thing is that I keep pushing myself forward and improving.

“It’s definitely going to be tough because the BSB has one of the biggest fields its ever had this year but I just can’t wait to get started now.”

Qualifying at Donington takes place today before the two races of the round, which are on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The BSB season also had rounds at tracks such as Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Thruxton and TT Circuit Assen, in the Netherlands.
