NICK Blackwell has no doubt that he has what it takes to finally land the British middleweight title next month.

The Trowbridge ace will take on John Ryder at London’s O2 Arena on May 30, with the domestic belt on the line.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn won the purse bid for the fight earlier this week, adding the bout to Kevin Mitchell’s WBC world lightweight challenge against Jorge Linares and Evgeny Gradovich’s IBF featherweight title defence against Lee Selby are on the same bill.

British heavyweight hope Anthony Joshua will also take on Kevin Johnson, while IBF welterweight title holder Kell Brook may also appear.

It will be ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell’s third crack at the British crown, after previous defeats to Martin Murray and Billy Joe Saunders.

“Hopefully it’s third time lucky,” said Blackwell.

“I knew the fight was going to happen but it was just a case of waiting to see who won the purse bids.

“If my guy had won it would have been on a different date but I’m not too sad that Eddie Hearn won as it’s going to be on a big show live on Sky Sports.

“It’s going to be a great fight in front of loads of people on a great card. I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m in the best place I’ve ever been. I’m 100 per cent confident I can win and it’s about time I took that title home with me.

“It’s a good match-up for me. In his last two fights Ryder hasn’t looked that impressive. I don’t know whether that’s motivation because the opponents haven’t been as good.

“But if you can’t get motivated for a big fight live on Sky Sports then there’s something wrong with you.

“I’m sure we will see a different John Ryder on May 30 and he will be at 100 per cent but I am still confident I can beat him.”

Blackwell hopes to benefit from a fresh approach in the gym and has recently started working with trainer Gary Lockett in Cardiff.

Blackwell will continue to receive guidance from his regular trainer, Mark Kent, but hopes a new voice can help him crack his title dream.

“Mark is still my main trainer and we have done really well together but I just felt that at this stage of my career I wasn’t getting any better,” said Blackwell.

“I just needed to try something a bit different and after just a few weeks with Gary I feel like a different fighter.

“In seven weeks time I will be even better and I think come the Ryder fight I will surprise a few people.”
