TWO HUNDRED runners lined up for the Trowbridge 5k, which had a superheroes theme this year.

With a flat fast course around the town on offer, some super times were recorded as Chris Hine of Team Bath led home the Avon Valley Runners pair of Michael Towler and Rich Ayling in 16mins 2secs.

In the ladies' race, Avon Valley’s Jackie Rockliffe took victory by more than a minute from Lucy Morrison, of Calne Running Club, and Avon colleague Diane Hier.

Prizes were also awarded to Warren Wade (1st MV40), Denise Grech (1st FV40), Robin Mark-Schols (1st MV50), Sue Jeddi (1st FV50), Max Davis (1st junior boy) and Poppy Crane (1st junior girl).

Stampede Sports obviously struck a note with the race theme, as a large proportion of the field opted to wear fancy dress and special prizes were awarded to Kirsty Webb, running as Wonder Woman, and Edric Hobbs running as “Bicycle Repairman” from Monty Python.

The Trowbridge 5k also formed part of the Wiltshire Road Race League, with the large local contingent of Avon Valley Runners taking maximum points. Full results are online at www.stampedesports.co.uk.

The next race from Stampede Sports will be the Great Chalfield 10k, which takes place at Broughton Gifford on Thursday, June 25 and is possibly the county’s most picturesque race over the distance.
