TROWBRIDGE Amateur Boxing Club hosted a successful home show last weekend, with many of their young fighters packing a punch.

Jack Stonehouse was first up for the club, taking on Yate’s Stephen Gilheany in a skills bout where he confidently showed he was the more skilful and stronger boxer.

Next up was Owen Heard against Kyle Ademi, from Downend, Bristol, and he was the busier of the two closely matched fighters. Heard landed the cleaner shots and started to get on top in the third round to secure the victory on points.

Harvey Frisby was then triumphant in his first competitive bout, against Devonport’s Kyle Cauckett. Frisby stuck to his gameplan and gave his opponent a standing eight count in the second round before the referee deemed Cauckett was not fit to carry on in the third.

Jimmy J Jordan continued the winning run against unbeaten Emeralds fighter Charlie Hill. By the end of the bout Jordan was in complete control and took a unanimous points victory.

Dillan Stonehouse entered the ring for Trowbridge next against Fred Bond from Walcot in Swindon.

Bond tried to pressure Dillan Stonehouse but the Trowbridge man was not going to be beaten in front of his home crowd and his work-rate secured a unanimous points victory.

Bradley Smith was the last home boxer in action before the interval against Dane Smith from Wimbourne club Ferndown. A close contest ensued but the Trowbridge fighter triumphed on a split decision.

After the interval it was the turn of Ruby Hanson against Brydie O’Keefe who had travelled all the way from Shrewsbury. O’Keefe piled on the pressure from the first bell and although Hanson countered with some big shots the the Trowbridge fighter took a unanimous points decision.

Last up for Trowbridge was Callum Smith against Devonport’s Brandon Staycey in a rematch bout.

Smith had beaten Staycey comfortably en route to the national semi-finals earlier in the season but this proved to be a more competitive encounter.

Staycey came forward at every opportunity but Smith landed the cleaner shots and got the nod from the judges in a split decision.

Trowbridge fighters are in action next week when Heard, Jordan, Dillan Stonehouse and Harry Glover travel to the Bristol Box Cup, a two-day competition against other schoolboys from across the country.
