TROWBRIDGE ABC youngsters tasted success at the Bristol Cup event.

On day one, Jimmy J Jordan and Dillan Stonehouse were both victorious against opponents from Devonport and Ireland respectively.

Harry Glover also took on an unbeaten Guildford City ABC opponent, having had to move up a weight category due to a lack of opposition.

Glover was not to be deterred, firing solid straight shots straight down the middle to take a comfortable points victory.

Meanwhile, Trowbridge’s Bradley Smith outpointed his opponent from Jewellery Quarter ABC, in Birmingham.

On finals day at the Bristol Academy of Sport in Filton Glover was first up up against a bigger, more experienced boxer from Dale Youth in London - the club of Olympic gold medallist-turned world champion James DeGale.

His opponent pressed early but it was the familiar story as Glover outwitted his opponent and using skill and speed to take a split decision.

Next up was Jordan, against a skilful opponent from Pinewood, near Bracknell.

The first round was cagey with both fighters having similar skilful styles and, despite a change of style in the second round, Jordan’s opponent took the gold on split decision.

Last up was Stonehouse against a Malmesbury opponent, who rushed forward from the first bell.

Stonehouse stopped those attacks with solid straight shots, winning his club’s second gold with a unanimous points victory.
