DANNY Talbot has set his sights on defending his national 200m title after an encouraging display at the European Team Championships in Russia at the weekend.

Talbot won his heat in Cheboksary to finish second overall, his result helping Great Britain & Ireland to fifth position as the host nation claimed the title.

The former St Augustine's pupil said: “I’m very pleased with it – it wasn’t the best of conditions and I think that’s reflected in all the times here.

"Many people are down on what they’ve been running earlier in the year so the main thing was to just get the points. And I was able to do that.”

He added “I want to go to the championships in Birmingham and defend my title – it’s the second most important race for me of the year after the world championships, so I want to go there hopefully, defend that title and just get my place in the team.”
