HOT Chilli Tri’s Kirk Latham continued his successful season with a third-place overall at the Bowood Estate Triathlon as he continues his preparations for the World ITU Age Group Sprint Championships in Chicago in September.

Latham is at the start of a really important training block and will be very pleased with his high finish and time of 1hr 13mins 28secs.

David Stiles was fifth in 1:17:25, while Tom Pager clocked 1:20:05.

Other Hot Chilli athletes had to brave horrendous conditions for Sunday’s Bowood event, with Alex Laird, Ian Ball and Ross Walford all racing and achieving PBs.

Jim Plunkett completed his first full sprint distance open water triathlon at the Bowood event in a respectable time of 1:26:50.

Plunkett is undertaking a multi-sport challenge involving completing at 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run everyday in 2015.

Club and triathlon newbies Maritsa Harrington and Emily Denham were taking part in their first open water swim triathlon at the Jenson Button Trust Charity Triathlon.

This event involves completing two super sprint triathlon races in a day, with only a short break in between.

Having only had a couple of introductory open water coached swim sessions at Vobster Quay, this seemed like a big ask and the race was approached with trepidation.

But the duo both had great first races and only just missed out on racing in the main final.

Buoyed by their success and filled with new confidence, both succeeded to beat their first race times whilst taking part in the B finals.

Club members are back into another hard week of training building towards the British Olympic Distance Championships on July 26.
