DANNY Talbot has been given a late call-up for the London Anniversary Games in the Olympic Stadium on Friday evening, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

Three years after he raced there as part of the Great Britain sprint relay team the Trowbridge Tornado will line up in a high quality 200m boasting new British champion Zharnel Hughes, Jamaica’s Nickel Ashmeade and the American pair of Ameer Webb and Curtis Mitchell.

“Danny was originally first reserve but now he has a place and fingers crossed that he will get a decent lane and can go there and run very fast,” said coach Danny Cossins.

“He ran that personal best in Lucerne last week and he just needs another fast time to guarantee him a place in the team for the World Championships in Beijing”

Talbot clocked 20.30secs last week and Cossins said that their strategy of getting him to peak fitness for the tail-end of the season appeared to be working.

“There is definitely something very fast in the tank for Danny,” added Cossins.

“He won’t be intimidated by the field and he will be right in the mix. On the basis of his training Danny is more than capable of running 20.1secs or something close to that.

“It should be a fantastic occasion with a full stadium.”
