JACKIE Rockliffe has the Avon Valley Runners’ club record in her sights at the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday.

The 45-year-old mum, from Trowbridge, has enjoyed a great start to 2016, clocking personal bests over 5k (18mins 51secs) and 10 miles (65:04), with an excellent second place overall in the Wiltshire 10, plus a swift 85:50 in the Bath Half Marathon.

That suggests her nine-year-old personal best of 3:07.45 is under threat but Rockliffe would love to beat the club women’s record of 3hrs 03mins 21secs set by Liz Ringham in the 2008 London race.

“I remember Liz running that time because I was pregnant at the time,” said Rockliffe.

“I had also entered London that year but then found out I was expecting, so I went up to London to watch Liz and cheer her on."

With former GB international marathon runner Holly Rush, from Bradford on Avon, having recently joined the club, Rockliffe reckons the club record is on borrowed time so Sunday would be a perfect time to write her name into the record books.

“I am not quite where I wanted to be in terms of preparation and not in shape to run under three hours,” added Rockliffe.

“I suppose there is an outside chance but it would have to have a blinder. You have to be positive but also realistic, so I am just aiming for a personal best and maybe Liz’s club record.”

Fellow London entrant Diane Hier hopes to improve on her last year’s time of 3.14.57.’’

As for the men, Mike Rose looks to improve upon the PB of 2:49.40 he ran in Chester last year, while Dominic Beddis is also looking for sub-three hours on his debut.
