BATH & Wiltshire Romans delivered an improved second-half display in their West of England League derby clash with Swindon St George, but still slipped to a 66-20 defeat.

The damage for the Corsham-based side was done in the first half as they trailed 42-6, the only score coming from hooker and coach Rob Cryer, Andy Williamson converting.

The Romans improved drastically in the second period coming out all guns blazing with two Chris Barter tries, one of which was a long-range effort.

Centre Matt Warnock added his first try for the club.

Club chairman Chris Chatten, whose side travel to Southampton Spitfires in the play-offs on Saturday, said: "It has been a tough second season for the club, but we will certainly be stronger for it in 2017. Planning for next season has already started, and we are keen to develop a rugby league stronghold in the Bath & Wiltshire area.

The winner of the play-off go forward into a West of England Plate Final at Chippenham RFC's Allington Field on Saturday, August 20.
