West Wilts ladies’ first team held league leaders Bournemouth 3rd to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

The visitors had the upper hand in the first half as Lauren Trim and Sharna Crow worked hard to gain ground and possession in midfield.

Amanda Robson, Suzanne Powell and Lucy Beer linked well across the defence, Kayleigh Pothecary made some fine saves and Hannah Cornish kept the score goalless with a fine clearance off the line.

Wilts got their noses in front when Nic Ilic crossed into the D to gain a penalty corner, from which Livie Evans broke the deadlock.

Deep into the second half, Bournemouth managed to wrong foot the Wilts defence and level the score.

Wilts upped their game, penetrating the Bournemouth defence but Jess McLean had a goal disallowed as the visitors had to make do with a deserved point.

The ladies’ third team showed their class with a dominant 4-0 win over their Corsham counterparts.

Wilts threatened early on as Ali Brown was just unable to turn home Sally Ford’s strike across the circle, however, they did not have to wait long for a goal as Nicky Smith opened the scoring.

Corsham increased the pressure on the Wilts defence but nothing got by new goalkeeper Izzy Robinson.

At the other end, Lucy Beavan and Ellie Brown weaved the ball past the Corsham midfield, linking with Smith, who sliced the ball onto the backboard for her second goal.

Tess Van Den Berg continued to frustrate the Corsham attack by her brilliant blocking, then moving the ball up to Elaine Shepherd and Ali Brown to create counter attacks.

As the game wore on, Brown danced around the visiting defence to score a beautiful third goal for Wilts before Smith had the final word as she completed her hat-trick.

West Wilts men’s first team suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of county rivals Swindon.

Swindon opened up a two-goal lead at half-time and although Owain Mumford hit the net soon after the restart to give Wilts a lifeline, the visitors upped their game again and racked up further goals before the final whistle.
