THE seventh running of the Wiltshire 10, sponsored by the Wiltshire Times, will take place on Sunday.
The Melksham event has proved to be one of the most popular runs in the south west, starting in the town centre and taking a certified accurate 10-mile course out around the historic village of Lacock before returning back to finish alongside the River Avon in King George V Playing Fields.
The race limit of 500 runners was reached a couple of weeks ago, with 60 clubs represented, from Adderbury RC to Liverpool Harriers and Bridgend AC to Finch Coasters.
Top local running talent signed up includes last year’s race winner, Simon Nott, of Calne Running Club, looking to add a third race win.
However, 2015 English 10k champion Daniel Studley, of Bristol & West AC, also starts, and the rapidly-improving Richard Ayling, of Avon Valley Runners, will also be aiming for a podium place.
Last year, the ladies race saw Jenny Spink, of Bristol & West AC, record the fifth fastest time for the distance in Britain.
However, this year, Ruth Barnes, of Avon Valley Runners, arrives in good form having claimed the South West XC championship title just four weeks ago and is looking to improve on her 56mins 46secs personal Best time which she set in October at the Great South Run in Portsmouth.
