TROWBRIDGE ABC head coach Steve Bryant believes Elizabeth Bools has the potential to become the next Nicola Adams following her latest title win.

The 16-year-old, who is from Melksham, claimed the U48kg title as the England Boxing National Youth Championship when she defeated Macy Kilkenny on points in Rotherham.

During that fight, her opponent, who is from Middlesbrough, was given a standing count in the second round.

The win now means the teenager will head to GB’s home of boxing in Sheffield over the weekend, where she will look to earn selection for the European Youth Championships.

Her latest win is her second national title this season after she wrapped up the National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs championship in December.

Bools will also be competing in the Tri National Championships, where she will take on the Welsh and Scottish youth champions.

The Trowbridge head coach was unable to hide his pride after coaching Bools for almost four years at the club and claims there is plenty to come from the Filton College student.

“It’s amazing. There are on four youth champions in the country and she is one of them,” said Bryant.

“From a small place like Trowbridge, to have a national champion is amazing.

“I’m confident she can win (the Tri Nations) because she has beaten the Irish and Welsh champion already.

“I’m extremely proud. She’s special and above all of the rest because she is so humble and grateful for what everybody does for her.

“This girl really does have the potential to be a Nicola Adams, go to an Olympics and kick on – we have a real star.”

Bryant, who works with Bools alongside fellow coach Gareth Heard, thinks her psychological strength is one of the reasons she is such a tough opponent.

“She’s the strongest boxer at the club mentally, which is surprising in someone so young, but she has always been a wise head,” added Bryant “She’s extremely fit, strong, tenacious and she never gives up.”
