ANGLING: Wiltshire teams in form on Avon as Leon takes solo honours

WILTSHIRE teams fared well in the third round of the Commercial House League fished on the Bristol Avon from Rotork to Newbridge.

Thatchers A took top spot in A Division with22 points followed by Maver Bathampton Elite with 19.5, while Premier Angling Black took top spot in B Division with 25.5 with Sensas Wiltshire Angling Red second with 24.

Individual honours on the day went to Andy Britt of Maver Bathampton Invincible with an all-bream catch weighing 14lb 15oz. Kevin Boltz of BTM Services took second with a bream and skimmer catch of 11lb 2oz. He was followed by Gavin Messer of Premier Angling Black with another mixed catch of 10lb 10oz.

Other placings: 4 Leon Hubbard, Maver Bathampton Elite 9lb 3oz 8dm; 5 Kevin Dicks, Maver Bathampton Elite 9lb 2oz; 6 Richard Whitmarsh, Sensas Wiltshire Angling Red 8lb 14oz.

  • Gary Etheridge of Devizes took top honours at the Saturday Open at Ivy House with a carp and silvers catch weighing 70lb 10oz.

The Thursday Open match at Viaduct Fishery was won by Pete Bailey of Westinghouse with a carp catch of 159lb.

Paul Blake of Carps AC took second with 148lb 1oz and Dave Romain of Viaduct third with 132lb 2oz.

Other placings: 4 Matt Skyrme, Wilts Angling 125lb 14oz; 5 Adrian Jeffery, Avon Angling 120lb; 6 John Darby, Viaduct 107lb 5oz.

  • The third round of the silver fish league at Viaduct was won by Mosella star Tony Rixon with a mixed catch of bream, skimmers, roach and perch weighing 46lb 12oz.

Andy Neal of Bait-Tech took runner-up spot with 44lb 4oz and Paul Faires of Sensas Thyers was third with 35lb 6oz.

Other placings: 4 Richard Aherne, Awashima 32lb 12oz; 5. John Green, Thatchers Tackle 30lb 15oz; 6 Dave Roper, Reids Tackle 30lb.

  • The inter club event between Pewsey and Calne was fished on Sunday on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Pewsey.

Calne took team honours with a weight of 25lb 5oz to the home team’s 14lb 8oz.

Individual honours on the day went to Nick Lofy of Calne with an all-bream catch weighing 12lb 9oz taken on waggler-fished worm for an easy victory.

Kevin Williams of Calne finished second with a tench catch weighing 5lb 12oz taken on pole-fished worm.

Nick Walker of Pewsey clinched third prize with another tench catch weighing 2lb 12oz taken on pole-fished red maggots.

  • Weights were fairly even in the Wilts Angling Open match fished on Sunday at Eden Vale. In-form Pete Neate from Holt hit the jackpot again taking top prize with a mixed catch of carp and skimmers weighing 56lb 5oz taken on method feeder-fished boilies.

Roland Lucas from Frome took second place with another carp and skimmers catch weighing 48lb 11oz taken alternating method feeder and pole-fished pellets.

Paul Sims from Frome clinched third with a carp and skimmer catch weighing 31lb 8oz.

Other placings: 4 Dave Baker, Trowbridge 29lb; 5 Ian Willetts, Bradford 25lb 4oz; 6 Dave Bancroft, Trowbridge 24lb.
