CHIPPENHAM Town brought a run of five games without a victory to an end at Bideford on Tuesday night and player-manager Nathan Rudge has no qualms over continuing to ‘win ugly’.

Town dug deep to take all three points courtesy of Alan Griffin’s added-time winner and hauled themselves up to 14th in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division.

Rudge (pictured right, in blue) concedes that he has grown tired of positive Town performances not yielding results and is more than happy for the ends to justify the means.

“Some people may expect us to turn up and play like Barcelona every week and they’re more then entitled to their opinion,” he said.

“We could keep turning up and trying to play this pretty football but there are different ways to win. You don’t go around the golf course with just one club.

“You can have a performance in a game but I’d rather have the three points than be told again how well we’ve played when we’ve lost a game.

“At the end of the day, football boils down to three points, a point or none and a win was all I cared about (on Tuesday).

“The pitch and conditions were terrible and the game was probably terrible to watch but we got the three points and that’s all that matters.

“We need to start winning games regularly and that’s the most important thing to worry about.”

Town host Warwickshire’s Bedworth United on Saturday before another lengthy Tuesday trip to Barwell.

Rudge added: “Sometimes you look for those periods where you’ve got a lot of games because if you can string a few results together, it’s a good chance to get up the table.

“Hopefully the win on Tuesday can be the start of something and we can get ourselves on a bit of a run.”
