I’M not sure where to put England’s stunning victory over the All Blacks last Saturday.

You never write England off in a one-off game and I felt there was a win against one of the top southern hemisphere nations there somewhere but not in my wildest dreams did I believe it would come in that manner.

With the way they played it’s a shame there is not another Test this week because that result ranks up there with England’s best of the last 30 years.

People remember the back-to-back Test wins over New Zealand and Australia Down Under in 2003 and the win over the All Blacks at Twickenham in 1993, but this was an incredible performance.

They dominated at the breakdown and they were the ones with the firepower.

It goes to show what can happen when you put sides under pressure.

Suddenly it looks very good and I’m pleased for coach Stuart Lancaster, who comes across as a very honest sort of guy.

Had they lost that match, I’m not really sure what would have been next so it goes to show the fine lines in sport.

Of course, the next thing is for England to back this up. People remember the win over Australia in 2010 and how that wasn’t built upon, but I think these guys are aware of it and the manner of this result will give them genuine belief.

Having seen the World Cup draw, I’m going to stick my neck out and say that one of the finalists will come from the group containing England, Australia and Wales.

All three sides have a good nucleus of young players and it will be an interesting pool.

Trowbridge are back in league action tomorrow against Dorchester and I’d like to give a couple of mentions to players.

We had a blip or two in October but someone who stood out for me was Dave Martin, who played hooker, flanker and second row for us during that period and has been really strong.

In November, we definitely turned a corner and Ashley Chalk has scored a hatful of tries.
