CHIPPENHAM Town striker Lee Phillips insists the side’s confidence is still sky high despite last weekend’s sickener at Stourbridge.

After recent victories over St Albans City, AFC Totton and Kettering Town, Phillips says that the Bluebirds are still bouncing, regardless of last weekend’s setback.

“Saturday was a disappointment but we still played really well and the boys are still buzzing at the moment,” said the Chippenham frontman.

“I’ve been told that Stourbridge are a side that are always up there every year but we were completely on top until the 80th minute. It was a shame not to get three points last weekend so bring on next Saturday.

“We’ve got a great squad and at the moment, everyone is excited to come to training and everyone is looking forward to the games, which is great.

“I said to Rudgey the other day that we’ve been playing some exciting football and hopefully the fans are starting to appreciate that and recognise the way that Rudgey and Feyer want us to play.”

Phillips, who has found the net nine times so far this season, is in competition with Alan Griffin, Tom Knighton and last weekend’s goalscorer Dean Griffiths for a place in Chippenham’s front line.

The striker says that he’s relishing the battle for a spot in the Bluebirds attack.

He added: “Knowing that if you don’t take your chance and play your best is the best way to have it and I think that it’s really helping us.

“For me, I know that if I’m on the bench, then Rudgey wants me to be ready to do a job when I come on and Griff (Alan Griffin) has been doing that recently – he came on and scored at St Albans and was great last weekend too.

“We’ve got that competition in our squad and it can only be good for us.”
