NEIL Taylor’s Steeple Ashton side go into the Christmas break as leaders of Division Two after they overturned a two goal deficit at St Mary’s to beat relegation battlers Heytesbury 4-2.
Heytesbury, who suffered a 3-2 defeat against Ashton back in September, stunned their hosts by taken a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Leigh Kennedy goal.
Ashton fell further behind early in the second when Sam Sweetman was on hand to double Heytesbury’s lead and set them up for an unlikely win.
Ashton sensed trouble and raised their games Nick Gittins started Ashton’s turnaround when he reduced the arrears and Michael Hindle restored parity for the home team before a second from Gittins put Ashton ahead.
A last-minute goal from Guy Rowley wrapped up the points for Taylor’s men who are currently on course for an immediate return to Division One, but having played as many as three games more than some of their fellow promotion hopefuls they are well aware that every point is valuable and this is one game that had Heytesbury taken their chances could have seen a different outcome.
