FORMER national indoor pairs champions in March 2010, Sue Cooke and Alex Jacobs are back on the title trail again.

The North Wilts duo have booked their place in the Area 30 pairs final, early in the new year, against Thornbury mother and daughter partnership of Cynthia and Rachel Winter-Alsop.

Cooke and Jacobs clinched a place in the area final with a 25-11 win over J Hunt (Thornbury), and a 28-15 success over Jeanette Hocking (Clarrie Dunbar).

Then in the area semi-final they comfortable beat Pat Pitman (sub for Kathy Walker) and Ailsa Midwinter (Clarrie Dunbar) 23-9 to qualify for the area final – just one match away from clinching a place at Melton & District again in the last 32 at the end of February.

North Wilts trio of June Coyle, Barbara Shepheard and Fizz Mace have qualified for the Area 30 triples final. They will play Clevedon led by Margaret Dyer on a neutral green early in January.

Mace’s trio notched big wins of 26-5 over Lois Greeves (Clevedon) and Wendy Ivory 24-4 (Clarrie Dunbar) before edging past Cynthia Winter-Alsop 15-13 in the semi-final.

And the North Wilts quartet of Janet Hardie, Val Molton, Sue Cooke and Alex Jacob have reached the area 30 fours final.

They will play a foursome from Clarrie Dunbar skipped by Jo Dunford in the final early next year.

Dunford qualified for the final with a 19-14 win over Thornbury’s F Stockford in the quarter-finals and Kath Sealey (Thornbury) 19-9 in the semi-final. While Jacobs’ four beat another Thornbury side led by J Hunt 24-17 in the semi-final.

And in the Ladies Over 60 Pairs in Area 30 June Coyle and Fizz Mace have still to play club colleague Viv Baskerville and her partner in the semi-finals. Clevedon’s Margaret Dyer awaits the winners.
