ANGLERS will not be sorry to see the end of 2012, which has been the wettest on record and has had severely affected sport, in the past couple of months in particular.

Generally rivers in the area have been in flood regularly, causing disruption to club and open matches.

Another event to fall because of the weather was the Calne Open match, due to be fished on Sunday but called off with the River Marden at Hazeland in flood.

Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open did take place at Leech Pool where Matt Skyrme, of Trowbridge, won with 87lb 8oz of carp.

Stuart White, from Chippenham, was runner up with 58lb 2oz of carp, followed by Dave Bancroft, from Trowbridge, with 57lb of carp.

Other placings: 4 Ian Willetts, Bradford 56lb 2oz; 5 Pete Neate, Holt 32lb 8oz; 6 Terry Fell, Devizes 14lb.

THE Airsprung Open Pairs match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Beehive and Airsprung was won by Dean Adams, of Bradford, with 10lb of roach and skimmers.

Rob Randell, from Gillingham, was runner up with 7lb 2oz of roach and skimmer, with Ian Stainer, from Bradford, close behind with 7lb 1oz of roach and skimmer.

The pairs prize went to Adams and Mick Withy from Westbury with six points, Stainer and Dean Bird from Bradford third with nine.

Other placings: 4 Steve Nadin, Garbolino Blackmore Vale MG 6lb 1oz; 5 Robin Guy, Melksham 5lb 11oz 8dm; 6 Martin Barrett, Bradford 5lb 10oz.

THE Avon Open Pairs match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Seend Park and Semington was won by Kevin Abigail, from Westbury, with 18lb of skimmers.

Tony Gilbert, from Melksham, continued his good form with 7lb 7oz of skimmers for second.

Brian Haigh, from Melksham, was third with 6lb 10oz of perch and skimmers.

The Pairs prize went to Abigail and Mark Wooldridge, from Chippenham, with a combined 22lb, followed by Haigh and Nigel Smith with 11lb 11oz and Gilbert and Mick Withy, from Westbury, with 10lb 10oz.
