ILLNESS-HIT Chippenham gave youth an opportunity as they slipped to National Three South West defeat in Berkshire.

The Allington Field side gave a debut to 18-year-old scrum-half Will Waddington and a second outing to 17-year-old Hugh Campbell on the wing, testament to the work being done by John Brown and his coaching team in the development squad.

The visitors took the lead on 14 minutes when debutant Waddington jinked through the defence to score his first try for the senior team, Harry Taylor converting.

Five minutes later, following a bust up between the forwards at a scrum, Chippenham were awarded a penalty that Taylor slotted, Redingensians hit back before half time, scoring two tries and converting one to lead 12-10.

Chippenham took the early second-half initiative through a well-taken try by Ryan Surry.

But the Rams upped the tempo and their more experienced forwards took charge, scoring three further tries, Taylor responding with a penalty for Chippenham.
