ALAN Griffin is in no doubt he and his fellow Bluebirds’ hotshots will find their scoring touch again to fire their side up the table.

Chippenham have tightened up at the back and proven a tough nut to crack in recent weeks, but Nathan Rudge’s side are now looking to rediscover their cutting edge in front of goal to add to their defensive solidity.

Saturday’s stalemate was a fifth successive draw for Town, but Griffin is certain that it’s only a matter of time before the Bluebirds’ goal-getters begin to repay the recent good work of their defensive teammates.

“We were scoring goals for fun and now we’ve been keeping clean sheets but haven’t scored a lot – you go through patches like that,” said the top scorer, who has netted 11 goals so far this season.

“I think they’re doing well at the back and if we can start taking a few chances up top then we’ll start winning.

“I think we’ve got goals in the team and it’s not a concern. We know that we can score goals because we’ve done it before and if the lads at the back carry on doing well then we’ll be winning games.

“We’ve only lost two of the last 13 and, admittedly, a lot of those have been draws but we are hard to beat.

“It is a battle and you get these games because every team is much of a muchness in this league.

“I think that once we get a win and we’re back on a run, we’ll be up there fighting again.”

The Bluebirds created more clear-cut chances but couldn’t find a way past in-form Gosport Borough, who extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches at Hardenhuish Park.

Chippenham threatened first seven minutes in when Toby Osman’s fantastic long-range effort was tipped over the bar by Borough keeper Nathan Ashmore.

Midway through the half, James Guthrie saw a cross headed away and Osman tried his luck again from the edge of the area but his shot was wide.

Nine minutes before the break, Griffin rose unopposed but his header dropped wide of the target, leaving the striker with his head in his hands.

Home keeper Ben John had to save well on a couple of occasions from Borough’s Justin Bennett.

But Town substitute Luke Ballinger nearly stole it in injury time, blasting just wide.
