KICK-OFF: Ballinger expects style trial for new-look Robins
10:00am Friday 16th August 2013 in Sport News
LUKE Ballinger wants to see the Robins banish any lurking fears as they launch their latest campaign in the Calor League Premier Division.
The 25-year-old striker, who is also England’s Futsal captain, is anticipating a challenging season as Frome look to implement a new progressive style of football under boss Derek Graham.
Ballinger, from Seend, anticipates that there may be some hiccups along the way as Frome find their feet in the coming season but thinks that patience will be key as the Robins look to express themselves.
“Things have been very different and it is a season of rebuilding at Frome,” said the Robins man, who returned to Badgers Hill midway through last season after a spell at Chippenham Town.
“Derek and Micky Byrne have their own style that they want us to play and I think that fans will have to be patient with the team. At the end of last season, we were playing some great football.
“Everyone wants to play like Spain or Brazil but obviously our league isn’t suited to that so we’ll have to know when to play percentage football.
“It isn’t anything against Darren (Perrin, ex-manager) though because he won games and nobody’s forgetting what he did at the football club.
“But we’ve got a new style – as long as we dig deep and work hard, I think that we’ll do well, even if we do lose a few games as we get used to it.
“August 17 is going to be a really exciting day because the football will be back and everyone’s determined to do well in the new season.
“We’ve just got to concentrate on enjoying ourselves and forget about fear.”
- Frome were beaten 2-0 at Conference South Weston- super-Mare in their final pre-season friendly last Saturday.
