NEIL SHARDLOW: Positives to a tough campaign
10:00am Friday 16th August 2013 in Sport News
WE’VE got the final game of the season this weekend and it feels like only yesterday that we were playing our first friendly against Gloucestershire’s second team at Warmin-ster.
The season has absolutely flown by and unfortunately, there have been a lot of disappointing results but a lot of positive peformances to remember, too.
We’ve tinkered with the team a lot before the game against at Herefordshire and it was extremely difficult picking a side.
We’ve brought Ed Kilbee back into the side to bat at the top of the order and we’ll have a chat with Joe Breet before the game to see what he wants to in terms of openers – we’ve got three people who could play there in Ed, Tom Morton and Toby Davies.
Michael Coles is back in the team and that’s a big plus for us because he’s an all-rounder who can have a big impact on games.
And then there’s Adam Miles, who I’ve wanted to get involved for a while, but he just hadn’t been scoring enough runs for his club side.
His commitment to Wiltshire is second to none and back when we had winter nets, he was the fittest player in training, so I want to have a look at him.
It was tough leaving out little (Neil) Clark, who’s a really talented cricketer, but I think that his game may be more suited to the shorter form of the game at this point.
Steve Bullen isn’t playing and Henry Langford is a Herefordshire lad but he’s just not been scoring enough runs – then you’ve got to remember that we’ve also got Jayden Levitt sat at home too.
It’s obvious that we’re not going to win anything this season considering the position that we’re in at this stage, but I’ll be looking for some more positive performances that we can take into next season.
If we can get a good result, then that would be great and it would hopefully push us up the table a little bit and make our league position reflect how we’ve played a little more accurately.
