MIXED MARTIAL ARTS: Brad to hit the big time on UFC card
3:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport News
BRAD Scott is getting ready to brawl in front of British fans at his first UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) show in the UK.
The 24-year-old Melksham mixed martial arts star, who has a professional record of eight wins and two losses, will step into the octagon against against Dutchman Michael Kuiper (12-2) at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester on October 26.
He will be fighting in his first major show since signing a dream deal with the UFC late last year.
Scott, who launched his MMA career at Melksham’s Dragonslair Gym, shot to fame after making the welterweight final of the Ultimate Fighter – The Smashes last December, losing a thrilling contest to Aussie Robert Whitaker (by decision) in front of a television audience of millions.
And Scott is preparing for his British UFC bow by training alongside a host of American stars at the MMA Lab gym in Arizona.
“I’m excited. It’ll be nice to have the fans cheering for me for once because it’s been a while since I’ve had that,” he said.
“I also feel a little bit of pressure because I don’t want to let the country down – I want to spread this guy’s face across the canvas a little bit and I want to make sure that I win.
“I’ll probably be nervous all the way through to October 26 but I’m sure that after the first round, if it goes that far, I’ll wake up and I’ll let my hands go.
“Being Dutch, the facilities he (Kuiper) has got access to in terms of K1 kickboxing are going to be far better than in the US, so I’ve got to prepare for the fact that he’s going to be hacking my leg off.
“It’s been great (at the MMA Lab). I got involved with Benson (Henderson, UFC lightweight champion) the other day and I’m training with Jordan Johnson, who’s an Ivy State wrestler – these guys are on another level.”
