ANTHONY Ottaviano’s Bradford United side have been playing their best football for many years and are currently enjoying a purple patch.

Their 5-1 win away at Westbury United Reserves was their outstanding result of the season to date in Division One of the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories Trowbridge & District League.

Bradford’s opening goal may not have been the best they have scored this term, but Phil Little made the most of sloppy defending from Westbury to scramble the ball home for 1-0.

Richie Bliha will claim Bradford’s second but it owed much to a mistake from keeper Jack Sully who carried his free kick into his own net which gave the visitors to Meadow Lane a 2-0 interval lead.

Marc Lanfear reduced the deficit for Westbury with a blistering drive from 20 yards out but his 16th goal of the season was just a consolation as Bradford reclaimed their two-goal advantage when Bliha linked up with Mitchell Hamber, who set up Phil Little to lash home his second and his team's third.

Westbury then had Jon Price sent off and things went from bad to worse for the Meadow Lane club as a simple tap-in from Tom Bouquet increased Bradford’s lead before a superbly-finished lobbed effort from Little.

Calne Eagles 0 Warminster Town Reserves 3

IN-FORM Warminster Town Reserves, who have now only lost once in their last six matches, climbed up to seventh place with a hard-fought 3-0 win against Calne Eagles.

Calne performed well in the first half, and their accurate passing made them by far the better side for the opening 20 minutes.

But after conceding two soft goals, they were made to rue missing several good chances to score. Calne’s Rhys Ellis twice went close with good shots and Brett Cullen hit the post with a header from a Danny Thompson corner.

However, against the run of play Warminster took the lead, when Calne’s Jake Goodwin felled Scott Jones just inside the penalty area, which allowed James Collett to open the scoring from the spot.

Calne continued to play well and were unlucky not to equalise when recent signing Leigh Haines crashed a superb shot against the crossbar and Rhys Ellis headed the rebound just wide of the post. Calne’s spirit was crushed after 34 minutes when skilful winger James Lindsay was allowed too much space in the box and found the bottom corner of the goal with a well-executed shot.

Early in the second half, Warminster settled the contest with a superb goal. Excellent hold-up play from striker Scott Jones set-up veteran midfielder Steve Perkins who fired home an unstoppable daisy-cutter from 25 yards out.

In the remainder of the game, both teams cancelled each other out. Warminster midfielder Luke Love went closest to adding to the score, but he was denied by a great stop from Calne keeper Andy Windsor.

Castle Combe 2 Trowbridge Wanderers 0

WHEN Trowbridge Wanderers kicked off their campaign with a 3-2 triumph over Castle Combe, there was talk of a return to the glory days of 2012 that saw Dan Mercer guide Wanderers to the first division title.

However since that opening day win Wanderers have managed just one point from a possible 30 leaving them floundering at the foot of the table and their demise continued as Combe avenged their earlier loss thanks to a 2-0 win that eased their own relegation worries.

Jamal Chevello scored in the first half with Ryan Slater sealing victory on 75 minutes.

Freshford United 3 Semington Magpies 3

AN IN-FORM Semington Magpies side, who inflicted leaders North Bradley with their first defeat of the season, travelled to title hopefuls Freshford United hoping cause another upset.

Ricky King’s Magpies side, who had already suffered a Junior Cup loss to Chris Birleson’s side, may not have got the victory they were after but a 3-3 draw saw them extend their unbeaten run to seven matches as they upset the apple cart for a second week running.

Magpies went 1-0 up after 15 minutes when Marc Scammell headed in at the far post, Tom Ferris got Freshford back on level terms and Mark Gerrish gave a 2-1 interval lead.

Early in the second half parity was restored when Rich Allum scored from a simple tap in after a great run from Sam Malone. Jon McChesney then put Magpies 3-2 with the goal of the game rifling home from 18 yards off the under side of the bar.

Semington looked all set to ruffle the features of another title chasing side but they were unable to hold on for victory as Tom Rooney fashioned an equaliser to earn Freshford their share of the spoils.

Steeple Ashton 0 The Lamb FC 3

LAST term's respective Division Two winners and runners up The Lamb FC and Steeple Ashton met for the second time this term and, having won the reverse fixture 1-0 thanks to a Sam Stevens goal, Lamb would have been confident of completing a double over Neil Taylor’s side which thanks to a dominant second-half showing they did.

Dean Coles was Lamb’s hat-trick hero, his first come on 57 minutes when he managed to break the deadlock following a goalless first half.

His second arrived on 70 minutes and he completed his three-timer and wrapped up his team's first win in four outings with his third 15 minutes from time.
