CLARRIE Dunbar men and women’s teams both recorded victories last Sunday in Somerset inter-club county matches, writes DAVE EATON.

The men accounted for Taunton Deane 91-60 in their second Somerset County League Division One game of the season.

Meanwhile Clarrie’s Ladies A team are through to the next round of the county Optika Top Nine inter-club knock-out competition with a 2-1 win over Woodspring (Weston-super-Mare).

The outcome of the men’s league match against Taunton Deane was decided on the home rinks at Clarrie Dunbar and Taunton Deane.

Both teams won their two home games but Clarrie came out on top as they recorded a 41-shot home advantage while Taunton Deane could only win their two home games by a ten shots margin.

Clarrie skips Colin Easton and Alan Totterdale were responsible for steering their rinks past the finishing post in emphatic style.

The two winning rinks collected four points plus the eight for the 91-60 overall shots advantage to give Clarrie 12 points and move them above Taunton Deane to the top of the Somerset Division 1 table.

Dunbar have 26 points from their two games with newly promoted North Petherton lying in second spot on 23 points.

The ladies at Clarrie made home advantage pay in their three discipline - pairs, triples and fours - Optika Top Nine match with Woodspring.

With a point available for each format Clarrie’s ladies came through successfully with Jo Dunford’s rink winning by 22 shots and Ailsa Midwinter’s triple edging home by two shots.

Clarrie A will now play either Bristol or Yeovil in the next round.

Away - Rink 1: John Jones, Trevor Batchelor, Brian Hawkins &Mike Sawyers lost to B Southcombe 13-20. Rink 2: Paul Hewitt, Russell Milne, Graham Jones & Fred Pope lost to T Hembrow 14-17.
