GOING into their game against third-placed Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves, Division Two leaders Lacock needed just four points from their remaining four league fixtures to be crowned champions.

Joe Martin and Martin Bradfield’s Lacock side now have one hand and a few fingers on the winners trophy after their latest victory that came courtesy of a 3-0 triumph Matt Rusling’s side at Meriton Avenue took them to just one point from claiming the title.

They could do that when they take on Westbury Town next Saturday to claim the first of a possible four pieces of silverware this term.

Stuart Tutty fired Lacock in front and Darrin Moss doubled their advantage before the interval. Lacock completed their victory in the final minute when Liam Shipman netted their third.

Wanderers, manager Rusling was full of praise for 17-year-old Cory Overend who stepped in at the last minute and had a stand-out performance in the centre of midfield for his team.

Bradford United Reserves 0 Heytesbury 1

BRADFORD United Reserves remain with a relegation dogfight on their hands after they were beaten 1-0 at home by fellow strugglers Heytesbury who, after their fourth maximum points haul in five outings, should have secured their second division survival for another season at least.

In a game of few chances it took Bradley Edwards first-half strike to win it for Heytesbury.

Westbury Town 1 Westwood News 9

WITH Westbury Town unable to use their usual base at Bratton their match with Westwood News was switched to home of the villagers and it was Mark Hurkett’s newsmen who emerged triumphant with a 9-1 victory which keeps them in the hunt for a top two finish.

Westbury, who can’t wait for the season to finish, held Westwood for 20 minutes and even after Josh Maguire broke their resolve they made a game of it in the first half an only conceded a second in first half injury time when a quickly taken free kick from Charlie Powell doubled their lead.

After the break, Lee Stevens added a third for Westwood and after that the goals came thick and fast with Josh Maguire helping himself to a four-timer.

Tom Downs had a simple tap-in, Ben Cowdrey struck a brilliant goal from the edge of the area and substitute Will Young scored with his first touch to make up the villagers nine. Steve Lewin replied for Westbury.
