THE ‘T’ word has been banished from the confines of Doric Park this week, with Trowbridge head coach Steve Ojomoh insisting tomorrow’s Southern Counties promotion play-off against Aylesbury represents the real key moment of their season.

While the prospect of a fairytale day out at the RFU Intermediate Cup final at Twickenham a week on Sunday has inevitably captured the imagination, Ojomoh has shelved all thoughts of it until matters have been attended to this weekend.

Trowbridge’s hopes of reclaiming their place at the South West level of rugby were ended by a 39-20 play-off defeat at Grove this time last season, a disappointment the former Bath and England man believes has paved the way for this season’s success.

“It’s the biggest game,’’ said Ojomoh. “This club has achieved promotion to that level before, but for 80 or 90 per cent of our players, it’s the biggest match they have ever played in because it is a chance to move back up to the next level.

“These boys want to test themselves and they came up just short last year.’’ Southern Counties North side Aylesbury arrive having, like Trowbridge in the south division, lost just three matches.

Ojomoh added: “It’s all on the day. As long as we focus on what we do, we’ll be OK. Character comes into it and so does having that belief.’’

While last season’s near-miss was a disappointment, Ojomoh reckons it may have proved a blessing in disguise.

“When you go up you need a much bigger and better squad,’’ he added.

“We weren’t ready as a club, nor as players, last season.

“Now they have matured as players and learned from their defeats.

“We did a lot of planning for this season and when we were beaten (by Grove) last season, I swore that it would never happen again.

“All of our season has been building to this point.
