TROWBRIDGE Winter Olympic stars John Jackson and Paula Walker have announced that they're expecting their first child together.

Jackson, 37, and fellow Great Britain pilot Walker, 28, live together in Paxcroft Mead and both represented their country at February's Sochi Games.

Walker, who is also a corporal with the Royal Signals, confirmed that she will miss the 2014/2015 season but it is aiming to return to the sport as soon as she can after becoming a mother.

“Myself and John have been in the sport eight and ten years but we've also always wanted to start a family,” said Jackson.

“This just seems like the right time for both of us and we're very happy.

“The baby's due in November and I'll still be training up until the birth. Obviously, there are a lot of things that I can't do, like stomach exercises, but I can still run and do leg and upper body work.

“Hopefully I can get back as quickly as possible after the birth.

“The Royal Signals have also been really good to me and are letting me train full-time at the moment.

“I'm definitely not going to be able to compete next season but John will be going ahead as normal.

“He's currently with work before he's released for training in July. “He wants to around for the birth, so we'll just play things by ear when competitions start at the end of the year – he's just going to be very sleepy.”

Jackson finished fourth with his GB1 four-man sled, just 0.11 seconds off the podium, at the Sochi Olympics whilst Walker and brakewoman Rebekah Wilson were 12th in the women's event.
