CORSHAM captain Pete Dennett has no qualms admitting that his team’s start to the season has been poor and has warned the Station Road side that they must improve against title-challengers Bath and Frocester.

Corsham suffered a third straight defeat as they were beaten by 80 runs at the hands of Taunton Deane last weekend.

And with clashes against Premier One champions Bath and fellow giants Frocester coming up in the next two weekends, Dennett is wary that his side’s unwanted record could easily continue.

“The bottom line is that we’ve lost three out of four and we haven’t been playing well,” said the Corsham skipper.

“I’ve no doubt that we’ve got the talent in our squad and can’t question the desire but we’ve just not been executing our skills.

“We’ve played most of the sides that were in and around the bottom of the table last year already and we’ve got Bath, who have won the league however many times, and Frocester coming up in the next two weeks.

“We could easily end up digging ourselves into a bit of a hole in those two games.”

Jack Leach (99) and John Rogers (93) put runs on the board for Deane, who batted first, before Sam Sheikh also weighed in with an unbeaten 63 as the visitors posted a hefty 312-5.

Corsham did their best to chase down their sizable target but were put under the cosh by Deane’s Rob Pryke, who ended the afternoon with figures of 4-54.

Ashur Morrison top-scored with 47 whilst openers Michael Coles (37) and Toby Davies (36) also chipped in for the hosts.

Jon Parker (21) and Paul Robbins (20) also added to Corsham’s total but Dennett’s men fell well short as they were skittled for 232 midway through the penultimate over.
