THE NEW-LOOK Trowbridge Town kicked off their latest Wiltshire League Premier Division campaign with back-to-back victories this week.

On Saturday, Dan Barnett, Sean Fordham, Mitchell Spackman and Luke Turvey were all on the scoresheet as Trowbridge beat Wilts Calne Town 4-3 before Ian Groves scored direct from a corner kick as the Bees edged out Melksham Town Reserves 1-0 on Wednesday night.

“We’ve lost a lot of players over the summer so it’s a fresh team – in the side that has started the first two games, there were only two players that were in the starting 11 last year,” said Trowbridge manager Mike Alford.

“We’ve had players step up from the reserves, we’ve brought back some of the guys that we let go the season before last and we’ve also got in a few guys from other places.

“I think we’ll know where we are by the end of September because we’ve got all the top teams in the next few weeks.”

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Corsham Town Reserves and Westbury United Reserves both suffered their second successive defeats of the new season as they were beaten by Shrewton United and Marlborough Town respectively.

New-boys Trowbridge Wanderers were beaten 1-0 by FC Chippenham Youth on Tuesday.
