WILTSHIRE forged into a strong position on day one of their Minor Counties Championship final against Staffordshire at South Wilts CC.

The home side, chasing their first Championship title for more than a century, bowled out the Eastern Division champions for 227 before reaching 155-3 at the close.

Potterne's Ed Young led the charge, taking 6-72 while Corsham's Joe King also took wickets.

Peter Wilshaw scored 52 for Staffordshire, but Kadeer Ali was the next best with 39.

Wiltshire lost opener Jayden Levitt, trapped leg before by Daniel Cumming, ut Ed Kilbee and Uzi Qureshi put on 94 for the second wicket leg before Kilbee went leg before to Ali Kilbee for 61.

Young was run out for 22, but Qureshi had reached an unbeaten 59 by stumps.
