PAUL Shanley’s side experienced a steep learning curve on Wednesday as they were beaten at home by Shepton Mallet in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

The newly-promoted side had settled in well to their new surroundings and went into the game full of confidence after winning their last three league games on the bounce but found themselves behind after just five minutes.

Tom Evans was able to hit back immediately from a corner to bring the sides back level.

Town then found themselves ahead in the match when Dan King netted with 20 minutes on the clock.

Three quick-fire goals from the visitors just before half-time swung the match in their favour and they were able to secure the comfortable win with two more in the second half.

Shanley now hopes his side will learn from the experience and will expect a reaction in the next game.

“In the first 20 minutes we went 2-1 up and we looked reasonably comfortable, but from then it was really a disaster for us and we conceded three goals before half time.

“At half time we still believed that we could come up with the chances to get back into the game.

“We were trying to get one goal back but they were the team to score and it could have been a lot more.

“It is a lesson learned and I have told the players that when you go up a level you have to make sure you perform at that level in every match.

“In this league you can’t afford to have an off day.

“I hope now that we have learnt our lesson and now we need to move on and prepare for out next game.”

Bradford will be travelling to Poole on Saturday for their FA Cup first round qualifying clash.
