SOUTH West champion William Browne was one of Team Bath AC’s star performers as the club wrapped up a first ever victory in the Avon Track & Field League.

The 12-year-old St Augustine School pupil from Trowbridge scorched to victory in the under 13 boys’ 100m and 200m clocking tines of 12.8secs and 26.4secs respectively.

It was a brilliant way to end his first season for the club and on top of his recent hat-trick of golds at the South West Inter Counties Championships ensured it as a memorable summer for him as well as his club.

Devizes athlete Emily Hutchinson has piled up the points for the club this season and she duly completed a double win in the senior women’s shot and discus with throws of 10.75m and 27.95m respectively.

In the U15 girls’ 800m the trio of Ann Burt, John of Gaunt student Caitlin Wosika and Sarah Wilson completed a fantastic clean sweep of the podium places as they recorded times of 2:17.9, 2:24.1 and 2:25.9 respectively.

That same feat was repeated in the U15 boys’ 1500m with Themis Bower racing to victory in 4:23.5 and followed closely home by the Howorth brothers of Hilperton John and Robert in 4:23.8 and 4:26.8.

Younger brother Rory Howorth also chipped in with maximum points as he won the U13 boys’ javelin with a throw of 28.84m.

Rhiannon Bowen looked good in winning the U13 girls’ 75m sprint in 10.6secs.

The javelin proved to be rich pickings as Jake Burkey of Sheldon School won the under 15 boys’ event with a throw of 29.29m and Aaron Shepherd was first in the under 17 men’s event with 38.32m.

High jumpers Tom Gale and Fraser Russell both set new personal bests with Gale winning the U17 men’s event with a PB clearance of 1.86m while Russell continued his good form to clear a personal best of 1.70m, adding one centimetre to his previous best, to win the U15 boys’ high jump and achieve a grade one standard.

Anna Murray also underlined her potential with maximum points in the U13 girls’ long jump clearing 4.32m and then also winning the 150m sprint in 21.1secs.

Hugo Coutinho won the senior men’s 1500 in 4:05.1 and Alex Phipps delivered maximum points in the senior men’s triple jump with 10.94m.

Sarah Long won the U17 women’s 300m in a time of 43.1secs.
