SPRINTER Danny Talbot will experiment with racing over 400 metres on the indoor circuit this winter.

“The plan for the indoor season is to aim for the 400m but I am not sure how it will go,” said Talbot.

“The thinking is that it should help with my 200m next summer when the target will be to qualify for the World Championships.

“It should help with my strength and stamina. I thinking running 400 indoors is more an event for sprinters anyway and hopefully will suit me well and benefit me.

“It is a new event to think about and I am really looking forward to it.”

Cossins has always had a feeling that Talbot has the potential to also develop into a world class 400m runner.

“Danny has been running 20.3/4secs outdoors regularly this summer so indoors he should be able to cruise the first lap in 21 seconds and then as long as he can hold his form it will be hard for anyone to get by him,” said Cossins.

“Last winter we concentrated on racing the 60m and sharpening his speed which worked well for him in the summer as he set new personal bests over 100m (10.14secs) and 200m (20.36secs).

“This will give Danny something different to focus on and that extra strength should benefit his 200m running because his raw speed is as good as anyone’s.”
