NICK Blackwell may be celebrating his 24th birthday today but there was no rest for the wicked as the Trowbridge fighter was back in the gym, just two days after fighting to his first career draw in Monte Carlo.

‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell recorded a 57-57 majority draw against Belarusian veteran Sergey Khomitsky at the at the Salle des Étoiles hall on Saturday night, with a strong finish from the Wiltshire fighter not enough to clinch victory after six rounds.

The Contender Gym man will be back in action in just 12 days for his second fight under the Hennessy Sports banner at the Glow events centre, part of the Bluewater shopping complex in Kent.

“I’m going for a meal later but I was back in the gym this morning,” said Blackwell.

“I’m trying to keep at the weight, so I’ve still got to eat healthy at the moment. I’ve not got long until my next fight, so I had to keep going as I normally would.

“I was a little bit disappointed with my performance (on Saturday). It wasn’t me at my best and if I got a rematch against Khomitsky, I know that I’d knock him out.”
