OLLY Woodburn believes he is reaping the benefits of a full pre-season training regime as he aims to continue his try-scoring exploits against Newcastle Falcons tomorrow (5pm).

The former Academy winger has touched down three times in five appearances this season, including important scores against Leicester and Northampton in the Aviva Premiership and one in Bath’s last appearance at the Rec – the 47-7 LV= Cup success against London Welsh two weeks ago.

Some of Woodburn’s appearances have come off the bench, although he started last weekend’s 18-6 LV= Cup defeat at Exeter and the player, who turns 23 next Tuesday, is satisfied with his early season form.

“It’s been a good season personally for me, so far,’’ he told the Wiltshire Times.

“I think a lot of it stems from having a full pre-season. I set goals for myself at the start and I’m excited to be part of the squad.’’

Woodburn has had to be patient with the likes of Anthony Watson and Semesa Rokoduguni, now away on England duty, making headlines during the early months of the campaign, and has also featured at centre on occasions.

He added: “You’re always learning from those players.

“It’s important that everybody knows their roles.

“You can come off your wing and get the ball in midfield and the way the coaches want you to play means you can be very adaptable.’’

Bath take on Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership at the Rec tomorrow (5pm).

Coach Darren Edwards revealed that the club’s back row injury problems appear to be easing, with flanker Matt Garvey and Carl Fearns both back in training after long-term lay-offs.
