CORSHAM Town assistant boss Ant Brown admitted that his side got stung for not taking their chances as their Wiltshire Senior Cup campaign came to an end last weekend.

Corsham’s interest in the county cup came to an end at the quarter-final stage as they suffered a 2-0 extra-time defeat at Sydenhams League Laverstock & Ford.

Top-scorer Levi Cox came close to putting Corsham ahead within the opening minute but the tie was goalless after 90 minutes, with an early goal in the first period of extra-time knocking the stuffing out of Brown’s side.

“We probably had eight or nine chances but when you don’t take your chances, you get punished,” said the Southbank assistant.

“Levi Cox has had a shot in the first 30 seconds and their keeper has clawed it onto the upright. They’ve hit the post too but if it was a league game, you would have accepted the point.

“But we’ve then conceded just a few minutes into half-time and we never recovered from that. Best of luck to Laverstock in the next round.

“It’s a shame because we wanted to do well in the competition but the positive is that the players that came in from the reserves stood up to be counted.”

Corsham are hoping to have the likes Mark Billingsley, Nathan Phillimore, Danny Baker, Sam Ockwell, Sam Pring, Ben Pring and Lewis McCarron back for Saturday’s trip to league leaders Barnstaple Town.

Brown added: “It’s a massive game for us. You’ve sometimes got to realise you’re not so little compared to these top teams.”
