MATT Banahan won’t be putting his feet up now he is back in the Bath Rugby team.

Winger Banahan is the longest serving member of the Bath squad, with more than 150 appearances in blue, black and white to his name.

The flying form of Anthony Watson and Semesa Rokoduguni out wide bumped Banahan down the pecking order at The Rec at the start of the season.

However, the 27-year-old has bounced back in style and capped his recent return to the starting XV with a hat-trick of tries in the 32-12 win at home to Montpellier in the European Champions Cup a week ago.

“I’m not a person to sit down and be happy to except second place,” said Banahan.

“I want to push myself to be in this team and be in the best place I can be. Now I’ve found it I need to keep pushing on again.

“I’ve had a few good games and am really happy with how I’ve been playing but I can’t rest on that now. I’ve got to try to get even better again because I know the quality we’ve got all around our squad.”

Banahan may have taken the plaudits at The Rec against Montpellier but it was keeping Bath in with a chance of qualifying for the European knockout rounds that was most satisfying.

“The first goal was to win the game and if we can could get a bonus point as well then even better,” added Banahan.

“Luckily I was able to get a few tries and finish off some other people’s good skill.

“We’ve got ourselves back in contention and although it’s going to be tough to get to the top of the pool we’ve got to aim as high as we can.”
