FIRST-TEAM coach Neal Hatley says Bath Rugby’s winner-takes-all clash at home to Glasgow Warriors has the makings of a “humdinger of a game”.

Both sides head into Sunday’s final European Champions Cup group game seeking a win that would put them in with a chance of a place in the quarter-finals.

Bath are just one point behind Pool 4 leaders Toulouse, with Glasgow a further point behind them, meaning all three still have a chance of winning the group.

Toulouse remain favourites to top the standings as they face winless Montpellier but a victory for either Bath or Glasgow would give them an excellent chance of progressing as one of the best three runners-up.

Bath are only in the position to fight for qualification thanks to last weekend’s incredible 35-18 triumph in Toulouse – an amazing achievement after defeats in their opening two games.

Forwards boss Hatley said: “To go down there and get the win – and the manner of the win as well – was very pleasing.

“We looked back after the Toulouse game at home with a bit of frustration and regrouped. We said we want to stay in this competition as we have spent two years trying to get here.

“What we have done is just put ourselves into a position where we have a chance to get through.

“If we can get another win then we will put ourselves up to 19 points and you’d think that’d give ourselves a real chance of qualifying.

“First and foremost we have to get the win. If we are fortunate enough to get ourselves into a position to go for a bonus point we will go from there.

“It’s going to be a humdinger of a game.”

There was more good news for Bath earlier this week, with no fewer than 11 players called up by England for the Six Nations training squad and England Saxons squad.

Dave Attwood, Kyle Eastmond, George Ford, Jonathan Joseph, Anthony Watson and Davey Wilson have all been included in the senior squad that will meet at Pennyhill Park on Monday ahead of the championship opener at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Friday, February 6.

Sam Burgess is in line for a first international appearance since his cross-code switch after being named in the Saxons group to face Ireland Wolfhounds in Cork on Friday, January 30, alongside club colleagues Ollie Devoto, Matt Garvey, Henry Thomas and Rob Webber.

Hatley added: “It’s unbelievably pleasing. It reinforces how well those guys have played but also how we’ve gone as a team.

“As a coaching team it’s extremely satisfying. To have your players called up for international recognition is one of the reasons you do this job.”
