Despite the cold weather, the Foxhanger stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal produced excellent catches in the Wilts Angling Open match on Sunday, writes Colin Scull.

Matt Skyrme from Trowbridge captured top prize with a bream and skimmers catch on the pole with red maggots weighing in at 12 lb 14 oz.

Liam Braddell from Chippenham took runner up spot with a bream and skimmers catch weighing 11 lb 0 oz taken on feeder fished red maggots.

Rob Kepner from Melksham was a close third with another bream and skimmers catch weighing 10 lb 15 0z 8 dm taken on feeder fished red maggots.

Other placings: 4 Mick Gunning (Trowbridge) 9 lb 14 oz; 5 Ian Stainer (Trowbridge) 8 lb 6 oz; 6. Kevin Morris (Devizes) 6 lb 13 oz.

Competitors enjoyed reasonable day’s fishing in the Chippenham Open match on the Bristol Avon at Chippenham on Sunday.

Andy Powell of Preston Innovation Thatchers carried off top prize with an all chub catch weighing 13 lb 11 oz taken on pole fished worm.

Gary Williamson from Devizes took runner up spot with a mixed catch of chub and roach weighing 9 lb 8 oz taken on stick floated red maggots.

Dave Baker from Trowbridge clinched third prize with another chub and roach catch weighing 9 lb 1 oz taken on stick floated red maggots.

Other placings: 4 Gary Etheridge Devizes 7 lb 8 oz; 5 Mark Wooldridge Chippenham 7 lb 4 oz; 6 Dave Johnson Calne 7 lb 1 oz.
