CHIPPENHAM Town stalwart Iain Harvey says that he’s still getting his kicks from running out for the Bluebirds, even if he’s having a testimonial event arranged in his honour.

A sporting dinner, which will take place at the Marriott hotel in Harvey’s native Bristol on Friday July 3, is being held to celebrate the 37-year-old midfielder’s 10 seasons of sterling service at Hardenhuish Park.

Former Liverpool and Swindon Town man Neil Ruddock will be appearing as the after dinner speaker whilst a donation from the proceeds of the evening will be made to charities Headway Bristol and CLIC Sargent.

“My wife (Michelle) has done a lot of the planning for this – she’s got the committee together and sorted it all out for me,” said Harvey, who joined Chippenham in November 2005 and made his 300th appearance for the club in December.

“Headway is also important to me because I had a mate (Scott Morrison) that died when he was hit in town.

“We’ll be making a donation to them.

“When you’ve been at a club for 10 years, you’re eligible for a testimonial.

“I’d like to organise a game in pre-season next year but I’ve got this to look forward to as well.

“When you’re playing at this level, it takes a lot of commitment.

“People will say that you get paid but you do it for the love of the game because you don’t get paid much.

“I’ve always lived in Bristol and it takes a lot to travel over two or three times a week for training or travelling to play up and down the country.

“I still love playing and I still think that I can do it at this level.

“Since I got sent off at Christmas (against Paulton Rovers on December 26), I haven’t been able to get back into the team.

“Nobody likes to be on the bench but I’ll keep going.”

On Saturday, the Bluebirds notched up their third win in four matches with a 3-1 victory over Burnham at Hardenhuish Park.
