MANAGER Darren Perrin is adamant Melksham Town are not looking any further ahead than tomorrow afternoon’s clash with Cadbury Heath as the potential league title decider against Odd Down looms large.

Melksham are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Toolstation Premier Division and travel to second-placed Bath side Odd Down for the crunch clash on Tuesday night.

A win there would give Town a huge advantage at the summit, although Buckland Athletic could still have something to say about that as they have four games in hand on Perrin’s leaders.

But Perrin insists any talk of Melksham being uncatchable at the top - with the possibility of Southern League football the carrot - is premature and has insisted that his side have far too much respect for the rest of the division to get ahead of themselves.

“They are all tough games and all we are concerned about is the next one against Cadbury Heath,” said Perrin, whose side came from behind to win 3-1 at Longwell Green Sports last weekend.

“We will have to play better than we did on Saturday if we want to be in with a chance of winning that one.

“Talk of us winning the title already is rubbish, there are still six games to go. I’ve been in the game long enough to know that you can’t be sure of anything.

“We won’t be resting people on Saturday with a view to Odd Down.

“We have got too much respect for the other teams in this league to get ahead of ourselves.

“We know what might happen if we start losing our focus.

“We didn’t do that in the Willand (Rovers) game before we played (title rivals) Bristol Manor Farm and we won’t be doing it this time.

“People keep saying Melksham have done this and done that, but we haven’t done anything yet other than possibly over achieve a bit this season.

“At the start of the year we just wanted to finish higher than we did last season and now I am sure that we will do that.”

Melksham are likely to be without Jake Harris for the clash against Cadbury Heath as Perrin has waived a seven-day approach from Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West table-toppers Merthyr Town for the striker.

Perrin added: “He’s been a very good player for us but he goes with our best wishes.
